A battery rarely gives advance warning of its condition. It works until the first harsh frosty morning when it no longer does. We test the battery, and if it’s at the end of its life, we replace it during the same service.

Battery replacementstarting from €35 · estimated duration approx. 30 min
In modern cars, the battery doesn’t just start the engine. A weak battery can cause the electronics to display strange error messages that look much worse than they are. Many ‘faults’ disappear when the battery is replaced.
The starting price of €35 covers testing and labor. The price of a new battery depends on its size and technology: a conventional lead-acid battery is the most affordable, while EFB and AGM batteries for start-stop cars cost more.
Some cars require the new battery to be registered with the car’s system so that the charging system can handle it correctly. We will inform you of the battery price before replacement. After the test, you will also know if a replacement is needed at all.
In the cold, the battery’s chemical reaction slows down, so it delivers less current precisely when a cold engine needs it most. Short drives worsen the situation because the alternator doesn’t have time to fully charge the battery.
If you mostly drive short distances, have your battery tested in the fall. It’s cheaper than a tow truck on a January morning.
The workshop is in Palokka, at Varastotie 4 D. It’s about 7 kilometers from Jyväskylä city center, 11 from Vaajakoski, and 17 from Tikkakoski. Without traffic, the drive from the center takes a good ten minutes.
Battery replacement is available on weekdays from 8 AM to 6 PM and on weekends by appointment (book by Thursday 2 PM at the latest), so you don’t always have to bring your car in during your workday. Directions on Google Maps

The correct battery depends on the car: its size, capacity (Ah), cold cranking amps (CCA), and technology. A start-stop car needs an EFB or AGM battery, and a conventional battery won't withstand its strain for long. We select the battery based on your car's specifications, so you don't have to guess.
In an AGM battery, the electrolyte is absorbed into fiberglass mats, allowing the battery to withstand repeated starts and deep discharges better than a conventional battery. This is why it's used in start-stop cars and cars with many electrical devices. If your car has an AGM battery, it will be replaced with an AGM battery.
Typically 4–6 years, often shorter in Finland's freezing temperatures than further south. A battery older than five years should be tested before winter, even if it still starts the car.
It charges, but slowly. A couple of kilometers' grocery run won't compensate for the consumption of a cold start, and with only short drives, the battery can slowly drain. If the battery has run flat, it should be charged with a charger and tested.
First, turn off the lights, heating, and other electrical devices so that all power goes to starting. In a manual car, keep the clutch pressed and use the starter for a maximum of 10 seconds at a time with short breaks. If the car doesn't start, jump-starting from another car or a booster pack is the next option. An engine block heater significantly eases starting.
Battery testing and replacement labor at BX-Motors starts from €35, plus the battery itself. The battery price depends on its size and type. Start-stop cars, for example, require an AGM or EFB battery.
Battery testing and replacement takes about half an hour. If the car requires new battery registration, it will be done during the same service.
